Breezes Newspaper

Working on the school newspaper is a full year activity that includes summer hours, especially in the two weeks prior to the start of the school year. Time commitment varies, depending on roles– around 20 hours a month is standard for editors, three to five hours a month for writers. In a typical year, ten regular, 8-20 page issues are published, with the possibility of additional “specials.”

Under the guidance of an advisor, students write, edit and produce the paper. Breezes manages a budget and raises funds through advertising. The staff consists of about 15 editors, 30 staff writers, artists, photographers and ads team members. There is also the opportunity to be an occasional, contributing writer. All positions (with the exception of contributing writers) are filled through an application process.

Meetings are in the Breezes Office at the high school (2420-A), and all work is done before or after school or on students’ own time over some weekends. Students interested in working on the paper are encouraged to sign up for journalism as one of their elective courses.
