About Our School
Minnetonka High School: A great place to learn
We are a high-performing high school serving students in 9th through 12th grade. Located in a suburban, single-high-school community, we serve as the flagship of the Minnetonka School District. We have been recognized as one of the Best High Schools in America by U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek and the Washington Post.
We operate a traditional six-period day, allowing our 3,000 students to maximize their learning and complete a full college-preparatory course load. Our building is equipped with state-of-the-art technology in the library media center, physics labs, technology education labs and architectural design classrooms. A voter-approved referendum provides $5 million annually for technology and classroom equipment to continue to integrate technology into all classrooms in the District through the year 2017. A rigorous academic program well prepares students for college or the world of work. We are one of the few high schools in the west metro area offering a traditional high school math sequence including: geometry, advanced algebra II (trigonometry), pre-calculus, calculus, multi-variable calculus and statistics. Writing is emphasized across the curriculum in addition to an outstanding English curriculum.
27 Advanced Placement (AP) courses allow students to take and receive credit for college-level courses in calculus, macroeconomics, literature, composition, psychology, history, government, fine arts, statistics, chemistry, physics and biology. Accelerated or enriched courses are offered in English, math, science, social studies and world language. Students have the opportunity to take courses at local post-secondary institutions through the post-secondary enrollment options program.
In addition to the AP program, we offer 33 courses from the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which provides an international standard of excellence and intellectual rigor for college-bound students worldwide. IB is a deep, thought-provoking course of study during the junior and senior year, and diploma graduates are among the top-tier college recruits in the world. The International Studies program is a precursor for many students interested in connecting with our partner schools in one of nine different countries.
Minnetonka junior and senior students can also gain real world experience in professional settings through the VANTAGE program or Project Lead The Way and all students can maximize their opportunities through Tonka Online.
At Minnetonka High School excellence in academics go hand-in-hand with excellence in co-curricular activities. Students excel in each of the four A's of high school success: Academics, Activities, Arts and Athletics.
