Imagination Fair

Get ready for Excelsior Elementary’s annual Imagination Fair!

  • When: Thurs, Jan 24th from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Auditorium & Gymnasium
  • Who: All Excelsior students (K-5) are encouraged to participate. Projects can be completed individually, or as a group. Limit one project per student.

Excelsior’s annual Imagination Fair is an exciting opportunity for students to imagine, create, experiment or invent. Let your child explore whatever may interest him/her at the moment (nature, art, technology, fashion, chemistry, photography, animals, crafts, or any other hobbies)!

You can enter any one of the three categories:

  1. General Creativity: Lego structures, artwork, sharing a hobby, etc.
  2. STEM & Art/Design: Inventions or innovative designs to improve a problem.
  3. Science: Asking/answering a question such as, "Does a cup of water boil faster in the microwave or on the stove?"

Families with multiple children should enter one child at a time. After submitting the first child, the system will allow you to return to the beginning to enter the next child. To avoid duplicate registrations, complete only one registration for students working in a group. Determine a leader to register your group only once. PLEASE NO CANDY or FOOD REWARDS for visiting booths. The long Winter Break is a great time to collaborate, plan and design. Projects can be dropped off on Wed, Jan 23rd from 4:30-6:30 p.m., and last-minute drop-offs will be accepted the morning of Thurs, Jan 24th.

Please contact our event chair, Amy O'Neill (amy.oneill@minnetonkaschools.org), with questions or to sign up to volunteer!

Books for Bikes

Excelsior Elementary School has partnered with the Excelsior Masonic Lodge to challenge young readers. Students that meet their monthly reading goal are entered into a monthly drawing to win a gift card. Hour of Code Party

It’s a coding party! In 2018, we’ll be bringing Hour of Code into the school day, allowing every child in the school to have access to this very special opportunity. From Tues, Dec 4th – Thurs, Dec 6th, each class will be attending the Hour of Code event in the auditorium for an hour. Half the session will be spent coding in applications of the child’s choice, and the rest of the time will focus on coding activities from the Hub. We’re looking for volunteers for the event. Some volunteers will be required to give demonstrations on how to use the equipment (we will provide video training before the event).

Please contact our Hour of Code Co-Chair, Sian Pledgers (pledgers@me.com), for more information.

XY Club

Join us for the next "Donuts With Dudes" event on Fri, Jan. 25th, 2019 from 7:15 - 7:55 a.m., in the gymnasium!

The XY Club is a club for dads and guys that have children at Excelsior Elementary. The purpose of this club is to get guys more involved and visible in the school through different activities. There is also a social component to this to bring guys together throughout the school year. XY club is for all male role-models involved in our student's lives. This is a new program that has a lot of great opportunities. Please contact Drew Dewitt at drew@hallettfinancial.com if you'd like to be added to this e-mail distribution.

BIG NEWS:

We surpassed our goal of $40,000, and raised $60,000 for our school! Nice work, Super-Readers. Now, it's time to celebrate!

This is our school's PTO biggest fundraiser, and engages our students in both reading, and raising money for their school! The money raised from this event supports the 35+ PTO-sponsored activities, which all of our students benefit from throughout the school year. Additionally, the money raised funds teacher grants, and other school needs which would otherwise not be made available.
