Family Movie Night
Thanks to everyone who attended Family Movie Night this year, and thank you to our amazing Family Movie Night co-chairs and volunteers! We raised $200 for the MN Children’s Hospital, $160 for the ICA Food Shelf, and $100 for the Animal Humane Society.
Books for Bikes
Excelsior Elementary School has partnered with the Excelsior Masonic Lodge to challenge young readers. Students that meet their monthly reading goal are entered into a monthly drawing to win a gift card. In addition, at the end of the year all those students that meet their monthly reading goals are also entered in the drawing for a bike.
Donuts & Dudes
The XY Club is a club for dads and guys that have children at Excelsior Elementary. The purpose of this club is to get guys more involved and visible in the school through different activities. There is also a social component to this to bring guys together throughout the school year. XY club is for all male role-models involved in our student's lives. This is a new program that has a lot of great opportunities. Please contact Billy Hartong at firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to be added to this e-mail distribution.
Join us for the next "Donuts & Dudes" event on Friday, January 24th, from 7:15-7:55 a.m. Come to school a little early and have a donut and a glass of milk or juice with your child before they go off to class. You can also socialize with other guys that have children at our school!
Blue Jay Publishing: Your child can become an author!
Another year of Blue Jay Publishing is in full swing! Third through Fifth graders are invited to write stories outside of their regular school day, which are above and beyond the classroom curriculum/assignments. The second (of three) story-submission deadline is February 12th, 2020. Participants and their parents are also invited to the second Authors’ Celebration Breakfast of the 2019-2020 school year, on March 3rd, 2020 from 8-9 a.m., in Mr. Gotz’s room. Stories can be submitted in English or Chinese.
Congratulations, Excelsior students! You brought in over $60,000 during your 2019 fundraising efforts. We are so proud of all your reading, and hard work to reach your goals!
This is our school's PTO biggest fundraiser, and engages our students in both reading, and raising money for their school! The money raised from this event supports the 35+ PTO-sponsored activities, which all of our students benefit from throughout the school year. Additionally, the money raised funds teacher grants, and other school needs which would otherwise not be made available.
Join us on Water Street in Downtown Excelsior on Thursday, October 31st at 1:30 p.m. for the annual Halloween Parade! Make sure to send your child to school with the appropriate outerwear for current weather conditions, as our students will be participating in this parade in their Halloween costumes. This is a popular community event, so be sure to allow extra time to find parking!
Hour of Code Party
It’s a coding party in 2019, and every student at Excelsior has access to this very special opportunity!
During the week of December 9th-13th, every class will attend the Hour of Code event in the auditorium for an hour. Half the session will be spent coding in applications of the child’s choice, and the rest of the time will focus on coding activities from “the Hub”.
If you’re interested in being involved in this event for the 2019-2020 school year, please contact our Hour of Code Co-Chair, Sian Pledger (email@example.com). In the meantime, check out photos of our students having fun, while learning all about coding!
Holiday Secret Shop
It's hard to believe, but it's time to start making preparations for our school's 2019 Holiday Secret Shop! Your help is needed to make the magic happen. Students will be receiving an envelope with a flyer from their classroom teacher, outlining their participation in the Holiday Secret Shop. All students are asked to turn in their Holiday Secret Shop envelopes with payment (plus a paper grocery bag) to their teacher by Friday, November 22nd. Students will shop Monday, December 2nd - Thursday, December 5th. Our committee has been hard at work, shopping and prepping for this treasured community event. All gifts are $6. Families are invited to shop the Secret Shop "After Sale" on Thursday, December 5th from 3:15-5:30 p.m., and Friday, December 6th from 7:30-10 a.m.
Please contact our Holiday Secret Shop Co-Chair, Isa Wheeler, with any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
