World Culture Week
Let's Go to Italy! Do you have relatives in Italy? Are your ancestors from Italy? Have you ever traveled to Italy, or do you just want to learn more about the country? Join us, as we start to plan Excelsior Elementary's World Culture Week in Italy, April
29th - May 3rd! If you're interested in helping, please email our World Culture Week Chair, Heather Johnson, (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Part of the excitement of World Culture Week is the decorations! If you have any pictures, clothing, jewelry, dishes, souvenirs, money, or any other artifacts from Italy, we would love to display them at school. Valuables will be shown in a locked display case for safe keeping. Again, please email Heather Johnson if you have anything to contribute.
We are also looking for someone to chair/co-chair this event next year! For more information, contact our PTO Board (email@example.com).
Donuts with Dudes
Join us for the final "Donuts with Dudes" of the 2018-19 school year, on Friday, May 9th from 7:15-7:55 a.m. Come to school a little early and have a donut and a glass of milk or juice with your child before they go off to class. You can also socialize with other guys that have children at our school!
The XY Club is a club for dads and guys that have children at Excelsior Elementary. The purpose of this club is to get guys more involved and visible in the school through different activities. There is also a social component to this to bring guys together throughout the school year. XY club is for all male role-models involved in our student's lives. This is a new program that has a lot of great opportunities. Please contact Drew Dewitt at firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to be added to this e-mail distribution.

5th Grade Recognition
5th Grade Recognition is a day to celebrate all our 5th graders accomplishments and in a way graduate them from 5th grade. It is a day you won’t want to miss. It includes starting at 8:30 am for a ceremony in the auditorium featuring a wonderful speaker, presentation of 2026’s gift to Excelsior and a slide show (featuring pictures you have submitted!). Then, we move on to a reception with food and drink for you and your kids. Next, the kids walk together in their classes down to the Excelsior Commons for lunch (at 11:30 am) and an awesome party that will last until 2 pm! Please note, this event asks for donations in time, money, and items. We are thankful to all of you for helping in whatever way you can and making this a great event.
SAVE the DATE for Wednesday, June 5, 2019
Please direct any questions about 5th Grade Recognition to email@example.com.
Books for Bikes
Excelsior Elementary School has partnered with the Excelsior Masonic Lodge to challenge young readers. Students that meet their monthly reading goal are entered into a monthly drawing to win a gift card. In addition, at the end of the year all those students that meet their monthly reading goals are also entered in the drawing for a bike.
Blue Jay Publishing: Your child can become an author!
Excelsior Elementary is excited to announce Blue Jay Publishing. Our mission is to provide students in 3rd through 5th grade the opportunity to write stories outside of the school day, which are above and beyond the classroom curriculum/assignments.
Hour of Code Party
It’s a coding party! In 2018, our wonderful parent-volunteers brought “Hour of Code” into the school day, allowing every child in the school to have access to this very special opportunity! Every class attended the Hour of Code event in the auditorium for an hour. Half the session was spent coding in applications of the child’s choice, and the rest of the time focused on coding activities from the Hub.
If you’re interested in being involved in this event for the 2019-2020 school year, please contact our Hour of Code Co-Chair, Sian Pledgers (firstname.lastname@example.org). Check out photos of our students have fun, while learning all about coding!
We surpassed our goal of $40,000, and raised $60,000 for our school! Nice work, Super-Readers. Now, it's time to celebrate!
This is our school's PTO biggest fundraiser, and engages our students in both reading, and raising money for their school! The money raised from this event supports the 35+ PTO-sponsored activities, which all of our students benefit from throughout the school year. Additionally, the money raised funds teacher grants, and other school needs which would otherwise not be made available.
