About the Shows

Grand Hotel
Passion with no reservations. It’s 1928 and Berlin is at the center of a razzle-dazzle world between two wars. At the bustling Grand Hotel, a series of eclectic guests including a fading ballerina, a destitute baron, a wannabe-starlet typist, and an ailing bookkeeper collide in a non-stop musical toast to the high life. A lavish score, jazz-hot dancing, and a theatrical storyline, combine to embody the joy and decadence of the roaring 1920s. It’s musical theater heaven!

  • Dates: November 5, 12, 18, 19 @ 7:30pm; November 13*, 20 @ 2:00pm
    • *This performance will be followed by a talkback with the Director, cast and crew.

Little Women
Based on Louisa May Alcott's life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.

This timeless, captivating story is brought to life in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love.

  • Dates: December 9, 16 @ 7:30pm; December 10, 11, 17, 18 @ 1:00pm; December 10, 17, 18 @ 5:00pm

Honk and Holler
It’s 1972. Carolyn Whitener is the owner of the Honk & Holler, a drive-up dive bar in the college town of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Carolyn becomes the reluctant plaintiff in a historic Supreme Court case argued by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a young lawyer at the ACLU, who convinces an all-male Supreme Court to take discrimination against women seriously by bringing a case against the young men who frequent Carolyn’s establishment. It’s a remarkable story of two very different women and how, together, they change the world.

This world premiere one act play is adapted with permission from NPR and Radiolab from one of their most popular podcast episodes. Minnetonka Theatre is excited to bring this remarkable true story to our stage in January 2023.

  • Date: January 28, time TBD

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night
Shakespeare's Twelfth Night is a tale of unrequited love – both hilarious and heartbreaking. Twins, Viola and Sebastian, are separated in a shipwreck, and each believes the other to be drowned. Forced to fend for themselves in a strange land,  Viola, falls in love with Orsino, who dotes on Olivia, who falls for Viola but is idolized by Malvolio. Enter Sebastian, who is the spitting image of his twin sister...

  • Dates: February 17, 18, 24, 25 @ 7:30pm; February 19, 26 @ 2:00pm

Guys and Dolls
Guys and Dolls is a musical romantic comedy involving the unlikeliest of Manhattan pairings: a high-rolling gambler and a puritanical missionary, a showgirl dreaming of the straight-and-narrow and a crap game manager who is anything but. Set in the Manhattan of Damon Runyon’s short stories, it takes us from the bustle of Times Square to the dance clubs of Havana, to the sewers of New York City, as it demonstrates the great lengths to which a guy will go when he truly falls in love with a “doll.” Guys and Dolls features some of Frank Loesser’s most memorable tunes, including the hilarious “Adelaide’s Lament,” the romantic “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” the exuberant “If I Were a Bell,” and the classic “Luck Be a Lady.”
