To recognize and commend the highest level of academic achievement, we have established an academic honor system.

Laude Latin model

Instead of class rank, we use the Laude Latin model to recognize academic excellence at the conclusion of your high school career.

Your final cumulative grade point average (GPA) is used to determine the level of honor on your high school transcript, diploma, and for academic recognition at commencement exercises. The following three levels of academic honors are used:

1. Summa Cum Laude, with highest distinction— Cumulative GPA average of 4.000 and above
2. Magna Cum Laude, with great distinction— Cumulative GPA average of 3.850 to 3.999
3. Cum Laude, with distinction— Cumulative GPA average of 3.667 to 3.849

(In the event that a miscalculation occurs, honors may be awarded after the fact, but honors mistakenly awarded will not be retracted.)

National Honor Society

Juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or above are invited to apply. The National Honor Society recognizes students for scholarship, leadership, character and service.

Honor rolls

Each semester an official honor roll is calculated based on your weighted term GPA.

• “A” Honor Roll—term GPA of 3.667 and above
• "B" Honor Roll—term GPA of 3.000 to 3.666

Academic lettering

Academic letting is another way in which MHS students can be recognized for outstanding school work. Student eligible for an academic letter must have a Term GPA of 3.850 or higher in the first semester for seniors and in both semesters for freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Senior academic letters will be mailed out and freshmen, sophomores and juniors will receive their awards in the fall of the next school year.
