Jane Ann Goltz

When you ask Jane Ann Goltz about a highlight or memory from her many years teaching in Minnetonka, what you get is a very long and delightful conversation full of heartwarming stories. In the end, her highlights can be summarized as the people–the students, parents and colleagues that Jane Ann worked with during her 30-year career.

"It's all about the people," Jane Ann said. "The kids were so much fun, getting to know the parents and families was great and I had fabulous colleagues." She especially enjoys seeing families and former students out in the community and talking with them about the things that are going on in their lives now.

Jane Ann has taught second and fourth grade, Title I and special education, starting with one year in Portland, Ore., then in one year in Robbinsdale, Minn., and the last 28 years in Minnetonka at Groveland, Middle School West and Minnetonka High School. "I enjoy helping students discover and reach their potential," Jane Ann said.

For others who are considering a career in teaching, especially in special education, Jane Ann advised "Be patient, creative, and understand the many different talents and intelligences that the students possess. It may not always be the traditional way of learning."

When Jane Ann learned that she was being inducted into the Faculty Hall of Fame, she was thrilled and humbled at the same time. "I'm just one of many teachers who deserve this honor. There are so many great teachers and staff here."

As a former teacher, Jane Ann has some advice for current students: "Get as much education as you can; it is such a good foundation for everything. Don't worry if it doesn't seem like things apply right now. It's important to learn how to learn."

Jane Ann continues to enjoy life. She has found ways to volunteer–whether driving for Meals on Wheels or chairing her Mankato High School class reunion committees. She's looking forward to more traveling, athletic activities and socializing with friends.
