Award Honorees

David Ringstad

When David Ringstad first arrived at MHS in 1965 he says, "[he] was awestruck, perhaps even intimidated, by the quality of the people with whom I worked. The teachers were masters, the students were achievers and the support staff was very helpful." Mention the name David Ringstad to former students and colleagues today, and even after 11 years of retirement, you will hear that the admiration is mutual.

As one nomination letter put it, "What was truly unique about Mr. Ringstad is that he cared deeply about his students. He developed creative methods to impart the material, and his command of it coupled with his personal ability to teach so well, made his classes valuable, productive and enjoyable for students."

As adults, his students look back and credit David's teaching with helping them achieve success in life.

"I think of your classes often," wrote a former student. "And [I] am very grateful to have had you as a teacher during my years at MHS."

Originally from Michigan, David attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. In 1964 he earned his Master's Degree from North Dakota State University before coming to Minnetonka where he taught until 1999.

As a teacher at Minnetonka for 34 years David will be remembered for many things including his love of teaching, countless hours of volunteering, his service as department chair, his time helping others, and his humble demeanor. A truly passionate and talented educator, David built long-lasting relationships with students and fellow teachers and still keeps in touch with many of them.

David and his wife have two children, both Minnetonka alums, Daniel Ringstad '77 and Susan Krantz '79, who is a reserve teacher for Minnetonka Schools. David is still active in the community and enjoys a busy retirement filled with travel and time at his cabin.

Though he was unable to attend the Alumni Awards ceremony today, David wanted everyone to know how proud and thankful he is for the honor.
