Amber Yang
Amber is Program Manager of Minnetonka Music Academy in Minnetonka Community Education. Having graduated with degrees and experience in molecular biology and piano performance, Amber combines analytical strategies and an artistic approach toward the growth of the community’s musical interests from preschool, K-12 to adult. Minnetonka Music Academy has received local and national recognition including Best Music Lessons Award from Lake Minnetonka Magazine, Project Awards from the Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA), and Best Communities for Music Education Award from the National NAMM foundation. Amber is also a recipient of Minnetonka School Districts Award for Child-Centered Excellence.
In March of 2020, Minnetonka Music Academy’s private lesson program branched out to an online platform and has since become a steady force as a secure and effective online learning environment. The pivot to online learning has kept the program growing and has increasingly attracted families from outside the school district. In late May 2020, Amber conducted the district’s first virtual recital series and successfully ran six online, live-streamed recitals over two days with students, families and friends joining from out-of-state and overseas. This virtual musical celebration was a highlight for many families during the pandemic.
With her passion for learning and sharing music with the community, Amber organizes opportunities for students to play music in senior living centers, the Empty Bowls ICA food shelf fundraising event, Caring Youth Awards ceremony, and MusicLink Foundation. As an active performer and musician in the community, Amber has participated in summer music festivals in Italy and Germany. She performs and accompanies orchestra and band students in statewide competitions as well as piano students in the Young People’s Symphony Concert Association (YPSCA) Concerto Competition at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis.
