Policy 550 - International Student Exchange Program
1.0 Purpose
1.1 The Minnetonka School District vision provides that the District will insist on a curriculum designed to stretch students’ minds and prepare them to thrive in American society and the world at large. The curriculum will include global awareness through the study of world language, history, geography, and current events.
1.2 Hosting international student exchanges is consistent with this vision, giving Minnetonka students the opportunity to study along side of and develop friendships with students from around the world.
2.0 ACCEPTANCE
2.1 The Minnetonka School District will accept international students from programs properly approved under the laws of the federal and state government.
2.1.1 Up to six students will be accepted from a single program. The school principal may authorize additional students from a program.
2.1.2 The number of students accepted may be limited due to large student enrollment.
3.0 RULES, REGULATIONS AND POLICIES
International exchange students are expected to abide by the same rules, regulations and policies as resident student.
4.0 ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Normally international students will have the same academic requirements as those required of resident students.
5.0 CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
International exchange students will be encouraged to actively participate in co-curricular activities.
6.0 ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
International exchange students are encouraged to cooperate with teachers to provide enrichment activities for classes.
7.0 SUPPORT
The principal shall designate one administrator or member of the professional staff as the liaison for international students.
