Policy 203.3 - Operation of the School Board - Governing Rules
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to provide governing rules for the conduct of meetings of the School Board.
II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY
An orderly school board meeting allows board members to participate in discussion and decision of school District issues. Rules of order allow board members the opportunity to review school-related topics, discuss school business items, and bring matters to conclusion in a timely and consistent manner.
III. RULES OF ORDER
Rules of order for school board meetings shall be as follows:
- Minnesota statutes where specified;
- Specific rules of order as provided by the Board consistent with Minnesota statutes; and
- The rules of parliamentary procedure as set forth in Robert's "Rules of Order" shall govern the Board in its deliberations. Rules and procedures of the Board may be amended at any meeting by a majority vote except that such amendment may not be contrary to the regulations set forth in the statutes in the State of Minnesota. The order of business may be suspended at any meeting by a majority vote of those present.
