Mary Cornelius is a storyteller and strategic communicator who is passionate about how words connect communities and bring people together to achieve amazing outcomes. She is inspired by the way school communications can celebrate student, staff and community achievements, elevate student voices and cultivate positive relationships to connect communities.
As Minnetonka’s Communications Specialist, Mary contributes to the District’s mission of child-centered excellence by leading the District’s social media content strategy and feature story development. With an eye for detail and a heart for inclusion and belonging, Mary collaborates with community stakeholders to share stories and support students as they discover their passions and pursue their potential. She writes for all of the District’s major publications, coordinates the School Board Recognitions program and contributes design, photography and strategic input for various projects.
Mary has a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and English literature from Augsburg University and a master’s degree in Strategic Communication from the University of Minnesota. She is currently a community advisory board member for Lake Minnetonka Magazine and lives in Minnetonka with her husband and children, who are actively involved in Minnetonka Community Education programs.
