Excelsior Elementary Read-A-Thon Raises $60,000

Congratulations to Excelsior Elementary for another tremendous success in the annual Read-A-Thon event! The Read-A-Thon is a school-wide fundraiser sponsored by the Excelsior PTO.

Families pledged money for each minute students spend reading to support for their school. This year, students raised more than $60,000, which will be used for field trips, family events, and teacher grants focused on student learning.

"We started hosting Read-a-Thon six years ago," explains Stacy DeCorsey, Principal of Excelsior. "It has continued to grow and be a very popular fundraiser. Due to its success, we only need to host one fundraiser for our school each year!"

To celebrate the Read-A-Thon's success, Excelsior's students and teachers gathered in the gym to watch very special ceremony: the top student fundraiser got to throw a pie in Principal DeCorsey's face. The 12 closest runner-ups also got to throw pies other teachers' faces.

"This has been the most successful fundraiser that I have seen in years!" says Principal DeCorsey. "I love that our students love to read; instilling this life long skill is incredibly important."
