Minnetonka Theatre Presents THE RINK

The students of Minnetonka Theatre are lacing up their skates this spring in preparation for Kander and Ebb’s musical masterpiece The Rink.

Artistic Director Trent Boyum said, “I’ve always been a big fan of Broadway’s Kander and Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spiderwoman) and to get a chance to bring their rarely seen masterpiece to our Minnetonka stage is a true thrill. The Rink is a touching love story between a mother and daughter, and how they find understanding and forgiveness through a series of flashback scenes. It starred Liza Minelli and Chita Rivera so of course it has knock-em-dead Broadway belt songs - and a thrilling eleven o’clock number the whole company performs on roller skates! I cannot wait for audiences to see our gifted students in this beautiful, bold and heartfelt story.”

About The Rink

Opening on Broadway in 1984, The Rink was nominated for multiple awards, winning Chita Rivera both the Tony and Drama Desk for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. The story focuses on Anna, the owner of a dilapidated roller-skating rink on the boardwalk of a decaying seaside resort, who has decided to sell it to developers. Complicating her plans are her prodigal daughter Angel, who returns to town seeking to reconnect with the people and places she long ago left behind. Through a series of flashbacks and revelations, the two deal with their pasts in attempt to reconcile and move on with their lives.
