Incoming Kindergarteners will have an immersion option available, provided there is sufficient interest.

The District’s goal is to provide a consistent language experience for students who have previously participated in a Chinese or Spanish Immersion program. Immersion students who elect to participate in the Tonka Online will have opportunities for a Language experience that emphasizes reading, writing, speaking and listening, along with content area vocabulary. It will also provide access to supplemental language development programs.

Tonka Online is not meant to be an option for those who are only planning to be out for a short period of time. Each class is a unique community of learners, and the pacing for each class depends upon each group of students.

Students who enroll in Tonka Online are expected to remain in the program until the end of the current semester.

If a student qualifies for Honors Language Arts (6, 7, 8), Honors Science (7 or 8) or Honors Social Studies (8), the assigned teacher will provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students.

Accelerated math classes will be offered in a multi-age setting up through Algebra, with courses beyond Algebra being offered asynchronously through Tonka Online.

Elementary and middle school students will have a set schedule with synchronous courses throughout the day and will need to log-in following a specific schedule.

Middle school students will follow a 6-period day and will have a blend of synchronous and asynchronous instruction throughout the day and week.

High School courses in Tonka Online are asynchronous. These courses are created and facilitated by Minnetonka Teachers that will provide instruction, support, and feedback in the learning process.
