Course Description: This course will offer the opportunity for students to further develop their language skills by studying, watching and analyzing films from the Chinese speaking world via Tonka Online. The course will explore the historical and cultural contexts of the films and their directors. Students will study a range of topics from an analytical perspective, including identity expression, changing gender roles and family structures, environmental issues, Chinese philosophy and its impact on society, and the impact of technological and economic trends on social structure.

Instructional Methods/Assessments: Instructional methods include readings, research, viewing movies, and Schoology group discussions. Students will be assessed by means of quizzes, exams, projects and essays.

Recommended Background for Success: This Tonka Online film course is recommended for self-motivated immersion students who are enrolled in or have successfully completed AP Chinese Language and Culture.
