CIS/CITS courses at Minnetonka High School are set up by the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (CIS) or the University of Minnesota Duluth (CITS) for students to take university classes while in high school. These courses are taught at Minnetonka and not on the college campuses. MHS CIS/CITS teachers must have exceptional qualifications and undergo specialized training to teach these courses.
Earn University Credit:
Students who enroll in a CIS/CITS class and meet minimum requirements are eligible to start their U of M or UMD university transcript and earn college credits while still in high school. Minimum requirements are different for each CIS/CITS class. To earn college credit, students must officially enroll at the U of M or UMD during the college registration process in the fall. This grade requirement ensures that students meet the university's material mastery standards. Students can take MHS CIS/CITS classes and not opt to register for college credit.
Academic Standards:
Students in CIS/CITS courses are subject to the academic policies of the University of Minnesota or UMD. As these policies are less flexible than those at Minnetonka High School, parents and students are strongly recommended to review these policies on the University of Minnesota CIS and the University of Minnesota Duluth CITS website.
Earn Weighted MHS Grade:
Students must officially sign up for U of M or UMD credit and receive a minimum grade of C- or better to qualify for a weighted MHS grade. This weighted grade reflects the advanced nature of the coursework and can positively impact a student's GPA. It is important to note that the weighted grade is contingent upon meeting the University's grade threshold.
