AP Courses

Make the most of your high school experience and earn college credits with our Advanced Placement (AP) program at Minnetonka High School (MHS). Our AP teachers are passionate about their courses and eager to support students undertaking this college-level work. Their dedication benefits our students. Depending on your AP exam scores and college credit policies, you may earn college credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities.

Minnetonka offers AP courses in English, world languages, social sciences,history, sciences, mathematics, computer science and the arts. MHS also offers a variety of AP courses through Tonka Online and VANTAGE. Depending on your AP exam scores and college credit policies, you may earn college credit or advanced standing at most of the nation’s colleges and universities.

Make the most of your high school experience by taking college-level AP courses with the support of dedicateds MHS teachers. In 2022, 82% of Minnetonka graduates took at least one AP or International
Baccalaureate (IB) course during high school, and 83% of AP students scored a 3 or higher on their AP exams (which is the minimum score needed for college credit consideration).

When you take college-level courses in high school, you are more likely to complete your college degree. AP offers something for everyone. The only requirements are a strong curiosity for the subject you plan to study and a willingness to apply yourself and work hard!

Once you've decided to take the AP challenge, it's easy to enroll through your regular course registration process. If you have any questions, talk to your current teachers, an AP teacher, your counselor, or Laura Herbst, our Advanced Learning Coordinator, about the course(s) you want to take. Discuss the course workload and any preparation you may need.

AP Physics C-Mechanics (Tonka Online)

Credits: 0.5 (Spring semester only)
Prerequisites: Have completed or be concurrently enrolled in both AP Physics 1 AND a calculus course.
This semester-long Tonka Online course is for students who have already taken AP Physics 1 and wish to take the AP Physics C: Mechanics test.

This course covers mechanics topics with a calculus lens in a self-paced/teacher-guided online format. These topics are Kinematics, Newton’s Laws, Work/Energy/Power, Momentum, Rotation, and Oscillations.

Pre-AP Biology (Tonka Online)

Course: #T7204S, summer only
Grade(s) offered: grade 10, grade 11, grade 12
Credits: 0.5 (summer course)
This course completes .5 toward an elective credit.
Prerequisites: Students should be registered for AP Biology in the fall; optional course for preceding summer.

This course does not count toward the state graduation requirement of 3.0 credits of science.

Students in this summer course will complete online study and engage in learning activities to prepare for the rigor and pace of Advanced Placement (AP) Biology.

Credits: 0.5 (summer course)
This course completes .5 toward an elective credit.
Prerequisites: Students should be registered for AP Chemistry in the fall; optional course for preceding summer.

This course does not count toward the state graduation requirement of 3.0 credits of science.

This course includes essential chemistry skills and includes support for the AP Chemistry summer assignment. The overall goal is to provide a pathway for prospective AP Chemistry students to solidify a strong chemistry foundation as they transition to college level coursework.
