Transportation

2023-24 School Year

A survey will be sent out to families in May to register for in-district busing. After July 1, contact the transportation department to register.

Bus fees do not need to be paid upfront for the 2023-24 school year.  Students more than 2 miles from the school they attend will not be charged a fee. Students within 2 miles will be charged $100 per student, with a maximum cost per family of $250.  Fees will be assessed in Skyward in November. MHS students receiving a parking permit will not be assigned busing.

About Transportation

All community members are part of the school bus safety team and can make an important difference in the safety of students as they board, ride and exit school buses.

Bus service is provided on a first come, first served basis. To ensure a bus pass will be processed and distributed prior to the start of school, registration must be completed on Skyward Family Access by June 9

NOTE: Bus stop locations may change at the District’s discretion based on bus registration and resident neighborhood needs. The same bus stop is not guaranteed from year to year.

Resident address is MORE THAN two miles from the school

Minnesota state statute requires that school districts provide transportation—at no charge—for all resident students whose resident address is more than two miles from the school they attend.

Resident address is LESS THAN two miles from the school

The District assesses a bus transportation fee for students whose resident address is less than two miles from the school they attend.

The annual transportation fee is $100 with a maximum cost per family of $250 per year. The fee for the family will be assessed in Skyward to the youngest student that will be riding the bus in October.

Open-enrolled students

The District does not provide additional buses for open-enrolled students; however, parents may sign up for an existing resident bus that their child can meet and ride. If the assigned bus stop is less than two miles from the school, open-enrolled families will be assessed the bus transportation fee (see above).

Elementary, middle and high school bus assignments

  • Bus assignments will be mailed the end of August.

Alternate Transportation Requests

If you are not the primary family and need alternate transportation, please complete the Annual Request for Daycare, Alternate, or Open Enrollment Transportation Form.

Open enrollment students who will use district busing must complete this form each year, indicating the bus stop within the district boundary that the student will use.

Working together for a safe and pleasant ride

It is the right of each student to be treated in a reasonable and respectful manner whether in school or on the school bus. When disruptions occur on the school bus they are usually related to student behavior. Issues may arise as a result of the actions of a single student, the interaction among several students or the interaction between students and their driver. We would like to deal with these behavior issues immediately, before they become a more serious problem or reach the level of harassment.

As a rule, school bus drivers correct or report behavior as soon as possible after it is observed. However, there may be times when behavior-related problems occur which are unpleasant for a student, but not readily evident to a driver.

Please do not hesitate to report (and encourage your child to report) incidents of harassment which may not have come to our attention through everyday communication.

As a part of your school transportation team, we are committed to the goal of providing a safe and pleasant ride for all students on a daily basis. Your cooperation is always appreciated in helping to achieve this goal.
