Welcome to Minnetonka High School!
Greetings from Minnetonka High School! I hope you and your family had an amazing summer and found time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. Personally, it was a special time with my family. We especially enjoyed fishing, swimming, and just time to connect.
At MHS, summer means time to prepare for the upcoming school year. Our most important work is hiring exceptional teachers who are focused on building relationships with students and creating an engaging classroom. This year we are also welcoming an additional Assistant Principal, Ms. Freya Schirmacher, and Student Affairs Coordinator, Mr. Josh Stephan, former Health teacher.
Our work at MHS is grounded in three critical words: relationships, engagement, and encouragement. Each staff member is committed to building a strong relationship with students in an engaging environment. At the same time, we work to inspire students to do more than they thought they could. MHS is a school of opportunities for all learners.
I ask each student to excel in the four As: Academics, Arts, Activities, and Athletics all while developing a strong moral compass. New students will quickly learn our two core values: “Do the right thing” and “Represent us well.” These phrases are not merely words; rather, what each student is asked to do. Neither is easy and both require courage. As I begin my fifth year as principal, I am so proud to watch our students live up to these expectations every day.
Our commitment to building a strong, respectful, and inclusive school community is on-going. We welcome students from all backgrounds and a variety of communities. The fact that we are all Skippers is our common bond. This year, I am excited to introduce an ongoing video series entitled, “I am a Skipper.” These brief videos will showcase MHS students throughout the year. Please click here to watch our series premiere featuring some of our senior leaders.
Parents, each year you entrust your child to us. I do not take that responsibility lightly. As a school, we are committed to educating the whole child and providing a positive, safe, fun, and caring community. If you have questions or your child needs assistance, please reach out to your child’s counselor first by phone or email. Likewise, my door is always open and I welcome all feedback.
Welcome to another great year at MHS.
With thanks for your support,
Jeff Erickson, Principal
Student Affairs Coordinator
