Shark Tank

Background on the Competition

Each year Global Business VANTAGE students complete in a Shark Tank competition. A central part of this competition involves students, either individually or in pairs, creating and developing a business idea. They present a marketing plan and financial projections for a business product or service to a panel of local business professionals who judge each presentation.

How the competition will work

There are three rounds of competition. The first two rounds are Monday, Jan. 9. In the first round, teams of judges will listen to presentations from VANTAGE entrepreneurs, followed by Q & A for 5-10 minutes. A winner will be selected and then the first round winners will present again to a different team of judges. From these eight semi-finalists, four will be selected to move on to the Finals.

This year, for the first time, we will be hosting Shark Tank Finals in the evening as a community event at Minnetonka High School on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the MHS Forum. From these finalists, a winner and runner up will be selected by our finalist judges.

Judges will rate each business plan using the following criteria:

  • Overall viability of business idea
  • Clarity of brand positioning statement
